asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what is the grant limit a mature student can obtain from the Miners' Welfare National Educational Fund before his or her State grants are affected.

Students are allowed to retain, without reduction of their grants from public funds, the first £100 of personal income from any source, including other grants. If a mature student has financial commitments entered into before the start of the course, further allowances may be made against personal income.
