Disabled Drivers (Petrol Costs)

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services whether she will now consider giving greater assistance to disabled drivers, in view of the latest increases in the price of petrol.

The petrol allowance of £10 a year is being introduced to provide a partial exemption from the effect of the additional value added tax imposed as an energy conservation measure. I have no plans to increase the allowance on account of the subsequent price increases which are mainly due to the rising cost of imported fuel.
