Layfield Committee

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will publish a list of the names of members of the Layfield Committee, their qualifications as members and the organisations they represent.

The Committee of Inquiry into Local Government Finance is independent, and members are not appointed in any representative capacity. Members are listed below with the posts they now occupy:

  • Mr. Frank Layfield, QC (Chairman).
  • Mr. Alexander Bushnell, County Clerk, Treasurer, Collector, Perthshire County Council.
  • Mr. Ronald Brain, CB, Retired—former Deputy Secretary, Department of the Environment.
  • Professor Gordon Cameron, Professor in Applied Economics, University of Glasgow.
  • Professor Alan Day, Professor of Economics, London School of Economics.
