asked the Secretary of State for the Environment whether he will report on the progress he is making in the promotion of an energy conservation programme for those areas over which he has responsibility.

My Department is collaborating with the Department of Energy and other Departments in implementing the measures announced by my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Energy on 9th December, and in the development of a publicity campaign to inform motorists, householders, industry and others how energy can be used more efficiently and effectively.

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if his fuel conservancy measures include a review of all impending installations of motorway floodlights.

Yes. This is a continuing process which involves reviewing all new schemes both in the light of the need to save energy and of the substantial road safety benefits of providing lighting.
