asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what was the total sum advanced by the Housing Corporation in 1973 for (a) improving existing dwellings and (b) building new dwellings; and what were the equivalent figures for the longest period of 1974 for which the information is available.

The total sums advanced by the Housing Corporation for 1973 and 1974 were:

(a) For improving existing dwellings.Nil13,875,000
