Commencement And Transitional Provisions

I beg to move Amendment No. 22, in page 22, line 35, leave out 'the provisions' and insert 'any provision'.

These minor amendments are needed to paragraph 2(1)(a) of Part II of the schedule as a result of the inclusion of disabled housewives in the provisions relating to the non-contributory invalidity pension. As is normally the case in social security legislation of this kind, paragraph 2(1)(a) provides that consequential regulations relating to NCIP which are made or laid in draft before the day on which the benefit is put into payment, referred to as "the appointed day", need not be submitted to the National Insurance Advisory Committee.

There will now be two such appointed days for the non-contributory invalidity pension—the first in the 1975–76 financial year for the original group of beneficiaries, and the second in the 1977–78 financial year for the housewife group. The amendments will ensure that paragraph 2(1)(a) will operate in respect of each of the appointed days and each of the two groups.

Amendment agreed to.
