asked the Secretary of State for Wales if it is the policy of the Sports Councils to encourage multi-sports clubs so that facilities are economically use to the maximum; if they give additional support to clubs which engage in multi-sport activities; and if he will make a statement.

It is the policy of the Sports Council for Wales to encourage multi-sports clubs by giving them more grant aid than single-sports clubs. The actual amount depends on the circumstances of the patricular case.

asked the Secretary of State for Wales if he will give an estimate of the upper, lower and average cost of providing an association football, rugby union and a hockey pitch by local authorities; if an estimate can also be made of the cost of providing a pitch and shower-bath facilities; and if he will make a statement.

The cost of providing pitches varies widely. The cost of a single pitch is likely to be within the following broad range:

Rugbyfrom £7,200 to £4,000
Soccerfrom £4,900 to £2,700
Hockeyfrom £3,700 to £1,850
These esimates do not include the cost of land.The cost of changing accommodation, including showers, could vary from £11,600 to £6,100 for a rugby pitch, or £9,400 to £5,000 for a soccer or hockey pitch.
