asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science how many comprehensive pupils in England and Wales leave school as soon as possible, expressed both as a percentage of the total and numerically.

In 1971โ€“72 92,230 pupils left comprehensive schools at minimum school leaving age. This represented 34ยท5 per cent. of pupils of the age group in comprehensive schools in January 1972. Due to the raising of the school leaving age no pupils left school in 1972โ€“73 at minimum school leaving age The figures for 1973โ€“74 are not yet available.
