asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what instructions have been issued to the RUC in regard to licensed gun holders in Northern Ireland; when these instructions were issued; and how many licences have been cancelled as a result.

In considering applications for firearms certificates the chief constable exercises his own discretion in the light of the circumstances prevailing. I am advised that since 1st January 1975 certificates have not been renewed in respect of 77 weapons.
