asked the Secretary of State for the Environment how many owners of listed buildings have recently refused grant from the Historic Buildings Council, because they cannot afford to contribute their share of the cost.

From October, 1974 to the end of January, 10 owners—including two local authorities—refused grants totalling £181,873 giving the reason that they could not contribute their share of the cost of repairs.
