asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food how many vessels are used for the transportation of live cattle within the United Kingdom and to the Continent and the Republic of Ireland; and how many are fitted with stabilisers.

Fifty-six sea-going vessels with equipment for the carriage of livestock are known to have used United Kingdom ports over the past few years; eight have stabilisers. There are also 74 roll on/roll off vessels which occasionally carry livestock, and 62 have stabilisers
