Mr. John Evans
asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what would be the product of raising income tax 1p in the pound in England, Scotland, Wales and the North-West Region of England.
Mr. Robert Sheldon
At 1974–75 income levels the total additional yield from increasing all rates of income tax by 1p is estimated to be about £320 million in a full year. Estimates on the same basis for individual countries and regions are not available but assuming that the proportions for 1974–75 remain as in 1971–72 the figures are as follows:
£ million | |
England | 275 |
Scotland | 25 |
Wales | 15 |
North West Region of England | 30 |
