Rent Act

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he is satisfied with the working of the Rent Act; and if he will seek to amend the Act to encourage more rented property to be made available to students and others in need of accommodation.

The Act has achieved its main purpose of extending full security of tenure to tenants of furnished accommodation. Lettings to students present special problems which I am considering with my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for the Environment.
