asked the Secretary of State for Industry what steps he is taking to encourage research projects investigating offshore marine equipment and techniques.
Mr. Meacher
The Ship and Marine Technology Board has been concerned with encouraging research projects investigating offshore marine equipment and techniques since it began work at the end of 1972. In 1974–75 SMTRB expediture on behalf of the Departments of Energy and Trade as well as of my Department in this area is expected to be of the order of £3·5 million.
