asked the Secretary of State for the Environment (1) whether his Department has been consulted about the proposal to dump 4,000 tons of cyanide-contaminated soil at Popham in the Basingstoke constituency; and whether he is satisfied that there will be no present or future risk of pollution of the environment;(2) whether he is satisfied that there is no risk to health, human, animal or fish, either now or in the future, arising from the proposal to dump cyanide-contaminated waste at Popham in the Basingstoke constituency; and if he will make a statement.

Yes. Technical officers from my Department are meeting officials of Hampshire County Council to discuss how the soil can best be disposed of safely.
