asked the Secretary of State for the Environment whether he is yet in a position to assess the usefulness of point visibility meters following the recent trials on the M4; and whether he will now install these instruments throughout the motorway system to contribute towards avoiding a repetition of recent fatal accidents caused by fog.

No. The trials and associated research must continue for some time yet before conclusions can be drawn.
