Mr. Buchanan
asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what was the length of time which elapsed on average between accused persons appearing and pleading not guilty in each of the stipendiary and lay magistrates courts in the City of Glasgow and their appearance for trial in the same courts during the years 1973 and 1974.
Mr. William Ross
The information, supplied to me by Glasgow Corporation who are responsible for these courts, is as follows:
AVERAGE PERIOD BETWEEN DATE OF FIRST APPEARANCE AND DATE OF TRIAL | ||
(Months) | ||
Court | 1973 | 1974 |
Central (stipendiary and lay) | 3–4 | 8 |
Marine (stipendiary only) | 4 | 8 |
Govan (stipendiary only) | 5 | 6 |
Charing Cross (lay only) | 2–3 | 5 |
