asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs whether he has made representations to the USSR authorities regarding the incident on 26th February 1975 in which 12 Soviet trawlers surrounded a British North Sea oil rig and with what response.

We are seeking confirmation from the Soviet authorities that they are in possession of the Notice to Mariners No. 60 of 1975 issued by the Hydrographer of the Navy on 9th January this year, giving details of the safety zone surrounding platform 47/8A in the Rough Field to which the hon. Member's Question refers. We are pointing out to the Soviet authorities that fishing activity within the safety zone is dangerous to offshore installations and fishing vessels alike.
