asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what was the percentage of income tax and surtax raised in each year since 1967 from all income recipients, excluding those in the top 20 per cent. and bottom 30 per cent. groups.

, pursuant to his reply [Official Report, 27th February 1975; Vol. 887, c. 223.], gave the following information:The percentages for the years since 1967–68 for which information is available are as follows:as follows:

For the purpose of these calculations, income recipients are persons whose income exceeds the annual equivalent of the PAYE deduction card limit. Husband and wife are counted as one.
