The information requested on other countries' industrial fishing catches is not available. Fishing for industrial purposes by Scottish vessels is a small proportion of the total Scottish catching effort and is restricted principally to fishing for species which are unsuitable for human consumption or for which there is a very limited human consumption market.

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what quantities, by weight and value, of the main species of fish were caught by fishing vessels based on Scotland in the area around Scotland which would fall within the proposed 200-mile fishing limit in each of the past five years.
An international system of zones of 200 miles would necessarily mean some zones determined by median lines where zones impinged. This would apply, for example, to the United Kingdom zone in the North Sea. Statistics have not been collected on the basis of the zones which might result from a new system of 200 mile limits, but it has been estimated that for 1972 the landings of white fish and herring from a 200 miles zone, including median lines where applicable, were as follows:
