asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs whether he is satisfied with the arrangements for handling general inquiries by telephone at the Passport Office at Clive House, in view of the fact that there are delays of up to an hour in calls being answered.

During periods of peak pressure there are occasions when, regrettably, some delay occurs in answering incoming telephone inquiries. A delay of one hour is, however, quite exceptional.
