asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what evidence he has collected about the performance of local authorities in dealing with their empty properties.

The Department's annual relets survey collects information about the number of council dwellings vacant and available for letting at the end of each year. For 1970 to 1973 these formed under 1 per cent. of the total. The figure for end 1974 is not yet available. I would also refer the hon. Member to my reply to my hon.
