asked the Secretary of State for Defence if he will make a statement on the air defence variant of MRCA.

:The air defence variant of the MRCA is now in the second stage of its project definition. The aim is to define in detail the characteristics of the aircraft as a successor to the Phantom in the air defence rôle. Parallel work on the associated intercept radar is in hand.
