asked the Secretary of State for Energy if he will detail the projects on which £88,000 was expended in 1974–75 at Harwell on energy conservation technology; and on what projects the estimated doubled budget for the current year will be spent.
Expenditure of £88,000 by the Energy Technology Support Unit in 1974–75 for energy conservation studies was in respect of the following projects: transmission of heat over long distances, energy conservation in industrial processes, use of heat pumps, and industrial motive power (hydraulic systems). These projects will be continued in 1975–76, except that the first item will be revised to cover the transmission of energy, and, additionally, projects on energy aspects of road transport, liaison with the International Energy Agency on energy conservation and general strategic studies will be undertaken.
