Mr. Gow
asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer how many civil servants are currently employed in the Department of Inland Revenue; and how many were so employed on the same date in each of the past 10 years.
Mr. Robert Sheldon,
pursuant to his reply [Official Report, 2nd May 1975; c. 273], gave the following information.The number of staff in post on 1st April 1975, excluding staff employed on short-term tasks, was 74,196. The corresponding numbers at the same date in each of the previous 10 years were as follows:
