asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what increase he proposes in the maximum level of students' grant; what investigations he has conducted into the costs students sustain in regard to hostel charges, lodging charges, food, clothing, books, &c.; and if he will make a statement.

A review of the rates of student grants for session 1975–76 is now well advanced and the results will be announced at an early date.
