asked the Secretary of State for Industry what representations have been received advocating the nationalisation of Norton Villiers Triumph; what answers have been given; and if he will make a statement on the financial and employment prospects for the United Kingdom motor cycle industry.

The Government's future policy towards the motor-cycle industry is under consideration but I am not yet ready to make a statement. Trade unions representing workers in the motorcycle industry have recommended that Norton Villiers Triumph Ltd should be taken into public ownership and I have undertaken to bear the possibility in mind but I have entered into no commitments.
