asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many senior positions for gynaecologists have been advertised and filled in the period March, April, May and June 1975 in all hospitals under her control or authority; and if she will make a statement.
Since the NHS employing authorities make annual returns this information is not available. Past data suggest that some 12 consultant appointments might have been made in the period March-June inclusive. However, as indicated in the Chief Medical Officer's letter of 19th February to regional medical officers, special arrangements have been made for my Department to be notified where reference to duties involving termination of pregnancy was contained in the job description. So far two notifications relating to consultant appointments in obstetrics and gynaecology have been received.
