asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science whether he is yet ready to make a statement on his decision regarding the report of the working party on school transport; and whether the Government's latest anti-inflation measures will have any effect on that decision.

My right hon. Friend is not yet in a position to make a statement but, as he indicated in the House on 17th June, any new school transport scheme must have regard to the present economic situation, and this will be reflected in such proposals as he may decide to put to the local authority associations.
