asked the Secretary of State for Employment what funds are available for retraining people made redundant in the footwear industry in Burton-on-Trent.

I am advised by the Manpower Services Commission that there are no funds specifically for the retraining of people made redundant in the footwear industry in Burton-on-Trent. The resources of the training opportunities scheme, however, are available to redundant workers in the footwear industry, as elsewhere, and I hope that many of them will take advantage of these. Since April 1974, vacancies notified to employment offices include some suitable for younger job seekers, and those notified to careers offices include some suitable for adults. Because of possible duplication, the figures for employment offices and careers offices should not be added together from 1974.

asked the Secretary of State for Employment (1) how many people currently notified as unemployed at each of the local employment exchanges in Cheshire have been continuously out of employment for up to two months, between two and six months, between six and 12 months, between one and two years, and over two years, respectively; and what these figures represent as a percentage of the total insurable population;(2) if he will publish in the

Official Report the number of those registered as unemployed in each of the local employment exchanges in Cheshire at the most recent convenient date; what these figures

measures have been announced to maintain the level of training in industry during the recession.
