asked the Secretary of State for Prices and Consumer Protection whether, before preparing legislation to strengthen the Consumer Protection Act to guard more positively against unsafe goods or goods likely to lead to accidents, she will have full consultation with the manufacturers of the goods with which it is proposed to deal in such legislation.

Before reaching any conclusions about the way in which the Consumer Protection Act 1961 should be strengthened, I propose to issue a consultative document so that all those interested, including manufacturers, have an adequate opportunity to make their views known.
