asked the Secretary of State for Employment how many seasonal employment vacancies were available in the Thanet area on 1st July 1975; and how this compares with 1974.

Seasonal employment vacancies are not distinguished separately in the statistics. However, on 9th July 1975, in the Margate, Ramsgate and Sandwich areas, the total number of

On 14th July the number of school leavers registered as unemployed was 196—125 boys and 71 girls—but more registrations are expected in the coming weeks. The August statistics will provide a more reliable indication of the numbers who have found work or remain unemployed.

asked the Secretary of State for Employment, for the areas covered by the Bury and Radcliffe employment offices, what were the total number of school leavers for each of the past five years; what were the relevant numbers and percentages of those who secured employment or remained unemployed by September of that year; and what is the estimate of the numbers and percentage of summer leavers who will be unemployed in September 1975.

School leavers seeking their first employment normally register with the careers service provided by local education authorities, and the following figures relate to the area covered by the Bury and Whitefield careers offices, which includes Radcliffe and other neighbouring districts:—notified unfilled vacancies at employment offices was 432 and at careers offices 100. The corresponding figures for 3rd July 1974 were 686 and 250. The statistics relate only to vacancies notified to employment offices and careers offices and are not a measure of total vacancies.

asked the Secretary of State for Employment how many recent school leavers in the Thanet area have not yet found employment; and how this compares with the comparable period in 1972, 1973 and 1974, respectively.

On 14th July, the latest date for which statistics are available, 32 summer school leavers were registered as unemployed in the Thanet careers service area. The comparable figures for the years 1972, 1973 and 1974 were 8, 6 and 3 respectively. Of about 900 summer leavers this year, 380 are known to have obtained offers of employment; but the August statistics will give a clearer indication of the number still seeking work.
