asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what recent evidence he has that white British mercenary troops are being recruited to fight against the Smith Government in Rhodesia and commit acts of sabotage in Rhodesia; and if he will take steps to prevent such conduct.

Inquiries are being made about allegations which have recently appeared in the Press. I have at present no evidence that anyone has gone to Rhodesia or elsewhere for the purpose suggested by the hon and learned Member. Her Majesty's Government would deplore involvement of mercenaries on either side in Rhodesia.
