asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will make a statement on his discussions with building societies about the availability of housing mortgages for low-cost terrace housing.

If, as I assume, my hon. Friend is referring to building society assistance in making up the shortfall in local authority mortgage lending, I have nothing to add to the answer I gave him on 30th June.I shall be writing to my hon. Friend about this particular problem in Bury, on which he has just sent a letter to my right hon. Friend.—[Vol. 894, c. 290.]
