Nurses (Car Travel Allowance)

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services whether she will amend the restrictions on the granting of car travel allowance to nurses in order to ease their travel problems and encourage recruitment.

Mileage allowances for National Health Service staff who use their cars on official business are not laid down by the Department but are negotiated in the General Whitley Council for the Health Services. I am aware of no restriction placed upon nurses or others, but if the hon. Member has a particular case in mind perhaps he will send me details.
