asked the Secretary of State for Trade what plans the Government have either to institute a licensing scheme for insurance brokers or to open consultations with the industry in order to instigate such a scheme.

At my request, the four principal brokers' organisations are considering what criteria might be applied in any regulation of insurance brokers and will be submitting specific proposals.
