asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many prisoners in Her Majesty's Prison, Nottingham, were penalised by the prison administrators for the offence of refusing to wear prison-issue shoes during the eight-week period ending 1st August 1975; and what punishments were given for these offences.
One prisoner was punished on two separate occasions for refusing to obey orders to collect or wear prison shoes. On the first he was awarded forfeiture of privileges for 14 days; on the second, three days' cellular confinement, three days' stoppage of earnings and forfeiture of seven days' remission.
asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what were the average hours worked per week by the staff of Her Majesty's Prison, Nottingham, for each of the eight weeks up to 25th July 1975.
It would not be practicable to provide meaningful averages of total hours worked but it may be helpful to my hon. Friend to know that in the period to which he refers those eligible for overtime payments worked on average about seven extra hours per week.
