Green Pound

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food whether it is his policy, in principle, to work towards the elimination of the difference in value between the green pound and the pound sterling.

The Government have made three adjustments to the representative rate for the pound and we have said that we remain ready to consider further adjustments. The recent improvement in the market value of the pound against European currencies following the announcement of the Government's anti-inflation measures has also reduced the difference between the market rate and the representative rate.
