asked the Secretary of State for Industry whether he will make a statement about current work on the development of quieter engines and hush kits for the VC10 and Trident aircraft.

My Department is actively engaged in assessments, with the Department of Trade and British Airways, of the possibilities for reducing the noise of these and other British-made aircraft, and of the likely effects in terms of noise relief to the community, costs and implementation time scales.
