asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (1) in view of the near bankruptcy of many efficient glasshouse growers, what steps he intends taking to assist them in the very near future;(2) when he anticipates being in a position to announce help for horticulturists and glasshouse producers.

My right hon. Friend has no plans to provide help to glasshouse growers and horticulturists generally other than that provided through our existing grant schemes, through research and the help available from the Agricultural Development and Advisory Service. I remain confident that efficient growers will continue to adapt to circumstances and provide the high-quality produce demanded by consumers.
