asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many men were imprisoned for default of maintenance payments in the last year for which figures are available; and how many are currently in prison.

In 1974, the latest years for which final figures are available, 2,913 men were imprisoned for non-payment of affiliation orders or maintenance payments. On 5th January 1976 there were 215 such men in custody.
