asked the Secretary of State for Defence if he will publish in the Official Report details showing areas in Scotland where factories engaged in defence work are operating and the number of persons employed in these factories.

Over 500 firms in Scotland are engaged on defence contracts. They are spread over most parts of the country. By far the biggest concentration is in Glasgow and Lanarkshire but other significant areas are Renfrewshire, Angus, Edinburgh, Midlothian and Fife. I regret that the number of persons employed in these firms cannot be made available without expenditure of disproportionate effort although clearly it is large.
