asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he has yet reached a decision on the pound for pound support for local authority or privately donated funds to alleviate flood and storm damage distress.

Pound for pound support is not considered appropriate. Grant support will be available for the improvement of coastal protection and sea defence; the proportion depends on the content of each scheme. The Government may also aid those inland authorities with considerable damage to not normally insurable property.
