asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will publish a table in the Official Report showing for each of the last five years the numbers of persons sentenced (a) in default of fine payments and (b) for breach of the peace, giving

The figures for breach of the peace excluding petty assault are readily available only for 1975, when 35,175 persons were convicted and sentenced, of whom 1,578 were given direct sentences of imprisonment.All figures relating to imprisonment include persons sentenced to young offenders institution, borstal and detention centre.
