asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he will call for a report from the Commissioner of Police for the Metropolis into the circumstances in which papers in the hands of the police for periods up to four years have recently reached the Observer newspaper; and whether these papers were given with the permission and consent of the owners of such documents and the police.

I am assured by the Commissioner that no documents relating to any inquiry have been made available to the Observer newspaper by the police
