asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science if, in the light of the recent pronouncement by the Prime Minister on the deficiencies of the education system, she will undertake to revise her Department's expenditure proposals.

Four-fifths of the money spent on education in England and Wales is the responsibility of local authorities. A great deal can be done within the existing provision and, where necessary, by the adjustment of local priorities. I am naturally looking carefully at national priorities for expenditure on education.
