asked the Secretary of State for Employment how many persons within the Central Region of Scotland are currently registered as seeking employment (a) as school teachers and (b) as teachers in establishments of further and higher education including the universities.

At 9th September, 35 unemployed people were registered for employment as school teachers in the area covered by the Bo'ness, Denny, Falkirk, Grangemouth, Alloa and Stirling employment offices, which corresponds closely with the Central Region of Scotland. There were none registered for employment as teachers in establishments for further and higher education, including universities. In addition, there might be a small number of persons seeking employment as teachers who are registered at the professional and executive offices but are not allocated to particular districts.
