Mr. Cant
asked the Secretary of State for Defence what was the cost to public funds of the use of RAF air transport of Service personnel at the Farnborough air show held in September 1976.
Mr. Wellbeloved
About £14,000. RAF air transport was provided to enable senior officers of HM Forces, NATO and foreign air forces to visit this important air show. Most of the flying was by Wessex helicopters, which provided a shuttle service between Oldham and Farnborough, because of the restrictions on aircraft proceeding direct to Farnborough. The Wessex helicopters were also available for medical evacuation in the event of a serious accident at the show.
