asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he is satisfied with the arrangements made by local offices to investigate cases where non-receipt or loss of Giro payments are reported.

The investigation of lost Giro cheques combines the dual responsibility of fairness to the person concerned and the safeguarding of public funds. We are always seeking ways to improve the effectiveness of our arrangements for investigation in the interest of both the individual and the community at large.
