asked the Secretary of State for Defence whether he has assured himself that all experiments carried out on animals at Porton are carried out in accordance with the requirements of the Cruelty to Animals Act 1876.

Responsibility for observing the requirements of the Cruelty to Animals Act 1876 rests personally and directly on each scientist at Porton who is licensed to carry out experiments subject to the Act. Responsibility for administering the Act rests with my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for the Home Department.
